The Black Hills are a small and isolated mountain range rising from the Great Plains of North America in western South Dakota and extending into Wyoming. The Lakota people dubbed this region “mako sica,” or “bad lands,” long ago because its rocky terrain, lack of water and extreme temperatures made it difficult to traverse. The Black Hills area can experience spectacular temperature variations. The most notable temperature fluctuations occurred on January 22, 1943 when temperatures rose and fell almost 50 degrees in a few minutes!
Yes, that makes it difficult to know what to pack for a day’s hike. But if you’re familiar with the territory, have traveled it successfully in the past and know what to expect in unexpected times, you can get where you need to go and have a pretty good story to tell at the end of your trip. At Norman, Hubbard and Associates, our home appraisers have successfully navigated changing market conditions many times over the past 30 plus years in business; and our expertise can help you and your clients travel safely too.
